Two Farmers Offered Plea Bargain of 5 Years in Marijuana Case, but Penalized with 28 and 40 Year Sentences After Jury Trial, Released From Prison
Bohl asked the wife of one of the defendants to go and speak to the circuit court judge about a reduction of sentence and to secretly record the conversation. During the conversation, the judge admitted that he had penalized the defendants with 28 and 40 year sentences for "wasting the court's time" with a jury trial. After Bohl told the Yazoo County DA about the recording, both men were later released from prison on a work release program.

This case was initially filed by a law firm in Southern California and was dismissed on summary judgment. After the law firm was fired, Bohl prepared an appeal to the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. In a published opinion, the case was reversed and remanded to the U.S. District Court, where the case was won after trial. The case was twice featured as a "special investigation" news report by Channel 7 News in Miami, Florida, in 1998.
